Doleful Prattfall

Please help the Red Cross and the people of Japan. Text “REDCROSS” to 90999 or text “JAPAN” or “QUAKE” to 80888 to give to the Salvation Army’s Japan-based efforts.

I know it’s probably been shoved down your throats left and right, but the Red Cross and the Salvation Army are two of the few legit services that actually put your donations to work.

$10 USD will be charged to your phone bill whenever it comes due, and there is a delay on the money actually being transferred to the organization(s), but every little bit helps more than you realize.

Also, several major supermarkets, such as Krogers and several of it’s subsidiaries, I’ve heard are also accepting donations- however, please ask if your particular location is doing so, before whipping out your wallet.

Walmart, as of 3-16-2011, is NOT yet making any moves towards charities or drives for Japan, so be wary of anyone asking for donations.

Other organizations running legitimate charity-drives include Unicef, WorldVision, Japan Society, Convoy of Hope, Global Giving, International Medical Corps, Save the Children, Operation USA, and ShelterBox. Go to their sites directly or give money at your local branch, or simply make sure to take proper precautions when sending money via snail-mail, as it can get stolen. Also, if you receive an email soliciting donations, do NOT click any ‘pay now’ buttons, none of the organizations have ever or will ever use chain-letters/mass-sent messages to request donations, if you receive something claiming to be from them and requesting money, it is a scam.

I’m sorry to the followers that were expecting something else, but I feel this is simply something I have to post. You can expect my “normal” posts in a few hours, but I think this should be seen, and at the very least, taken note of. This is something I feel strongly about, as Japan has always been my home-away-from-home.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
